I was going to just update my status everyday with different questions about brands and prices but I figured that I'll just write a blog about each different category on my "Essentials List". I'm trying to have my list all together so when we register it won't take forever and I will register for what I actually need and will use! Please tell me what brand and why you love it! Thanks MOMS!!
Day 1:
Baby Care Must Haves...
-brand of bottle and why? Most of you have already commented that Dr. Browns & Playtex are the best!
-extra nipples? Stick with kind on bottle or branch out?
-bottle warmer? Do we need one, if so which one??
-bottle brush? Do any of you actually use one?
-pacifiers?
-breast pump? Manual or electric?
-thermometer?
I think that about covers it for the feeding section of my list!
Don't get pacifiers, or just get one pack of two. Ellie turned out not to be a paci baby, so we didn't need them, and the dog ended up eating the ones on the floor. Any dentist will advise against using the pacifier, so unless you need them to help baby sleep, don't get started using them!
ReplyDeleteBreast pump--I bought the Medela pump n style advanced. It used to come with a great backpack (I think it's a shoulder bag now), but it is a double pump, can be electric or manual. It has a one year warranty. I used mine for 14 months. Comes with cooler and carry bag and containers for milk. This is the top of the line, but completely worth the money. It is hospital grade and easy to carry around. I even used it in the car. You can save a few dollars by getting the regular version, but you should also check to see if your insurance will cover it.
ReplyDeleteOk... This is fun!
ReplyDeleteNipples- I stuck with the kind on the bottle. I wouldnt worry about branching out unless your little one is picky
Bottle warmer-I dont have one. Breast milk is always the perfect temp..lol but if its pumped i just warm it is warm water. Its easy. But for moms that give all bottles im sure its more useful
Bottle brush. I use it. but you could prolly buy just a regular dish brush for cheaper
Pacifiers... i bought like a dozen then ended up not doing pacifiers. I would buy maybe one or 2 and buy more if you need. I originally got the nuk silicone.
Breast pump- I have an medela freestyle. I bought it from a friend. THey are really expensive but if you can find a good deal they are so worth it. I havent used a manual, but i hear its time consuming and annoying. It takes me 30 minutes from start to finish. It seems like it would take way longer with a manual. I guess it really depends how long you plan on using it.
soothie bottles are what worked for us when iris stopped nursing. she LOVED her soothie paci so it only seemed right to go with the soothie bottle. bottle brush is a YES. also a drying rack really helped. the manual breast pump i got was a piece of junk. didn't work. the medela breast pump would be an awesome big item to register for.
ReplyDeletethermometer that we got was the digital with some Vaseline for rectal readings (it just reads a degree higher). the ear thermometer didn't really work well for us.
the dr with iris highly recommended giving her a paci when she was an infant b/c they had some studies out then (2 1/2 years ago) that said that it helped to prevent sids. i know that studies change all the time though…
hope this helps!
We used Avent brand of bottles. Titus never had a problem with them. I guess types of nipples and bottles really depend on the baby. I would buy one brand and just try it and then see if you need to change.
ReplyDeleteI never used a bottle warmer. I just put the bottle in hot water until it was warm enough.
I love bottle brushes!!! We didn't have a dishwasher when we were using bottles so yes highly recommend them if you don't have a dishwasher!! But if you do have a dishwasher then I don't think you would need it that much =)
We said we were not going to use a pacifier. That lasted three days...lol =) We used them and he never had nipple confusion or anything after using them (i do recommend not using bottles till after 6 weeks though) Sucking is just a natural soothing thing for them so We used them and at about 9 months we started only giving it to him at night and then at a year we got rid of it cold turkey. And it wasn't that bad =)
ELECTRIC PUMP!!!!!! It makes all the difference in the world!! We have the Lansinoh brand and it worked great!!
We have the Exergen Temporal Scanner. It is a thermometer that scans across the forehead and it is quick and easy!! =)
Hope this all helped =)
and we could only use the MAM brand of pacifiers....nothing else worked... It all depends on the baby =)
